Celebrating the 80th Annual Stommish Water Festival: Honoring Our Veterans - June 19-21
Dear Lummi Nation School Families and Staff,
We are proud to share an important and meaningful community event with you—the 80th Annual Stommish Water Festival, taking place June 19–21, 2026, at the Lummi Stommish Grounds.
This year’s theme, “Honoring Our Veterans,” is especially powerful. It reminds us of the deep respect, resilience, and gratitude we hold for those who have served, while also looking ahead to a strong and healthy future for our community.
At Lummi Nation School, this theme reflects the values we strive to instill in our students every day—honor, perseverance, community pride, and cultural connection. The Stommish Water Festival is more than an event; it is a living tradition that brings together generations through shared history, celebration, and learning.
Throughout the weekend, there will be opportunities for students and families to experience:
- The world-famous canoe races
- Cultural songs, dances, and performances
- The Veterans Parade honoring our heroes
- Youth activities, games, 3v3 basketball, and Sla-hal (traditional stick game)
- Cutest baby contest
- Traditional foods, including salmon, and local vendors
We encourage our students and families to attend, participate, and take pride in this important tradition. Events like Stommish provide powerful opportunities for our students to connect classroom learning with real-world cultural experiences, strengthening identity, belonging, and community engagement.
As a school community, we are honored to stand alongside and celebrate the legacy, generosity, and vision that have sustained Stommish for 80 years.
We hope to see you there!
